About Me
Kara Porter is an emerging creative producer and development-focused storyteller committed to bringing culturally meaningful narratives to stage and screen. Rooted in representation and inspired by the transformative power of inclusive storytelling, her work centers on uplifting underrepresented voices and creating stories that help audiences feel seen.
Originally from Sacramento, California, Kara earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Dance from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During her time there, she played an instrumental role in helping establish the university’s Dance Minor program, blending her passion for movement, storytelling, and community engagement.
Kara’s creative foundation is built on writing, editing, leadership, and visual storytelling. As a freelance writer for Rocket Mortgage, she produces long-form articles crafted to educate and empower readers. At Genesis Church in Sacramento, she designs digital content strategies, leads media production projects from concept to completion, and develops new methods of connecting with the community through storytelling and visual media.
Influenced by visionaries like Ryan Coogler, Kara is drawn to stories that explore identity, heritage, belonging, and cultural truth. Her interests span across live performance, film, and television, where she seeks to merge artistic expression with meaningful representation. She is particularly passionate about development and pre-productioncrafting foundational documents, shaping narrative direction, and building organized workflows that bring creative visions to life.
Kara is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Television, Radio & Film at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Through her graduate studies, she continues to deepen her craft as a producer, director, and development creative while expanding her understanding of the entertainment industry.
Driven by purpose, heart, and imagination, Kara is dedicated to creating stories that resonate across audiences and generations. Her long-term vision includes producing original works for Broadway, contributing to late-night television, and developing stories that transition from stage to screen while preserving their cultural depth and emotional truth.
For Kara, storytelling is more than a craft, it is a means of representation, connection, and impact. She brings authenticity, compassion, and creative leadership to every project she touches, striving to ensure that every story she helps shape moves people, honors identity, and reflects the rich cultures that inspire her.
